Biography
Sergey Martsenyuk is a baritone based in Toronto, Canada, known for his deep voice with rich undertones and commanding stage presence. He has been studying privately with a former soloist of La Scala di Milano Theatre, Vaguif Kerimov, whose unwavering discipline and inextinguishable enthusiasm for opera helped to shape Sergey’s character. In fact, they have frequently appeared on stage together, including “Summer’s Bloom Concert” in 2014, where they showcased solos and duets from different operas. Furthermore, Sergey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University, where he majored in Theatre Performance. As part of this program, Sergey worked closely with highly esteemed professionals from the industry, including a Hollywood star Michael Greyeyes in acting classes, Peter McKinnon in stage craft, and Belarie Zatzman in theatre history. He gained valuable experience working behind the scenes as part of the crew as well, where he learned about costuming, lighting, and even carpeting. While studying at York University and juggling his growing interest in music with his studies in theatre, Sergey realized that opera brings these two things together in a perfect unison and will allow him to cultivate his talent both as a singer and an actor. His operatic career begun in 2012 with Toronto Academy for Performing Arts, under the professional guidance of a world-famous soprano, Mary Liu. Sergey was featured as Commendatore in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Monterone in Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, as well as Colline in Puccini’s “La Bohème” and Figaro in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro”, as part of
opera in concert series at the Columbus Centre for Performing Arts.
